A Beat Ahead: CEDAR Helps Trial Smarter Heart Tech

8 July 2025

At Cardiff Medicentre, we’re proud to support our tenants at the forefront of medical innovation. One such tenant, CEDAR, is collaborating with Ceryx Medical and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board on a groundbreaking clinical trial that has the potential to revolutionise the treatment of heart failure.

The trial, known as RSA-PACE, marks the first human use of Ceryx Medical’s new Cysoni device. This is designed to replicate the natural fluctuation in heart rate linked to breathing patterns, known as respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA). By mimicking these natural rhythm changes, this new pacing technology could significantly benefit individuals with heart failure. The trial will assess whether the Cysoni device and its ability to mimic a heart’s natural changes can lead to improved cardiac function and patient outcomes.

CEDAR – a joint NHS and Cardiff University research centre – are providing support in the design and routine management of the RSA-PACE trial to ensure that the correct regulatory medical device standards are met. Their work is key to ensuring that the study is carried out in a robust and meaningful way, paving the way for potential next steps.

This collaboration exemplifies both the innovative work CEDAR undertakes and the ways in which our tenants in the Medicentre community contribute to advancements in healthcare that have the potential for global impact.
